Introducing The Cafe Mini-Game

Picking up some extra cash in today’s gig economy is a financial reality that most young adults at least consider at one point or another – and having the option to pick up some extra cash can be a life-saver (and budget savior).

Our budgeting game captures this in our Weekend Choice – players have the option to Work Extra Hours on the weekend to make some extra cash to help reach their savings goals.

If players choose to Work Extra Hours, they will have two options: our classic Slide Puzzle Game, or our new Cafe Mini-Game!

How The Game Works

The Cafe mini-game is only available while students are in part-time mode (in which they already work in a cafe as their primary job). The scenario is that they are taking an opportunity to pick up an extra shift at work – they need to wait on tables to earn tips by delivering orders to tables who request them, and taking dirty dishes back to the kitchen to free up a table after a customer has left.

The player earns cash every time they successfully deliver food to a table. They also need to bring dishes back to the kitchen – there is no earning for bringing back dishes, but the table will not be “free” for another customer until it has been cleaned.

Players try to earn as much as they can during their 1-minute “shift” – and their earnings are added to their next in-game paycheck.

Unlike our other mini-games, there are no other bonuses or special points earned from Working Extra Hours – it is simply cash earned that will help make reaching savings goals easier for this month.

The Cafe Game joins the Comparison Shopping and Wealth Whiz Quiz mini-games to keep students engaged as they play through each month of the simulation.

If you want to try any of our mini-games, but your school does not yet have a license for PersonalFinanceLab, you can sign up for our Teacher Test Drive to give it a spin!

Happy Learning!
